چکیده

We determine the relative ages of the open cluster NGC 188 and selected Hipparcos field stars by isochrone fitting, and compare them to the age of the thick disk globular cluster 47 Tuc. The best fit age for NGC 188 was determined to be 6.5 ±1.0 Gyr. The solar metallicity Hipparcos field stars yielded a slightly older thin disk age, 7.5 ±0.7 Gyr. Two slightly metal-poor ([Fe/H] = −0.22) field stars whose kinematic and orbital parameters indicate that they are members of the thin disk were found to have an age of 9.7±0.6 Gyr. The age for 47 Tuc was determined to be 12.5 ±1.5 Gyr. All errors are internal errors due to the uncertainty in the values of metallicity and reddening. Thus, the oldest stars dated in the thin disk are found to be 2.8 ± 1.6 Gyr younger than 47 Tuc. Furthermore, as discussed by Chaboyer, Sarajedini & Armandroff (1999) 47 Tuc has a similar age to three globular clusters located in the inner part of the Galactic halo, implying that star formation in the thin disk started within 2.8± 1.6 Gyr of star formation in the halo. Subject headings: Galaxy: formation — globular clusters: general — globular clusters: individual (47 Tuc) open clusters and associations: individual (NGC 188)

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

Abundances and ages of the deconvolved thin/thick disks of the Galaxy

We have investigated the abundance of several chemical elements in two large stellar samples kinematically representative of the thin and the thick disks of the Galaxy. Chemical, kinematical and age data have been collected from high quality sources in the literature. Velocities (U,V,W) have been computed and used to select stars with the highest probability to belong to the thin disk and the t...

Elemental Abundance Survey of The Galactic Thick Disk

We have performed an abundance analysis for Fand Gdwarfs of the Galactic thick disk component. A sample of 176 nearby (d ≤ 150 pc) thick disk candidate stars was chosen from the Hipparcos catalogue and subjected to a high-resolution spectroscopic analysis. Using accurate radial velocities combined with Hipparcos astrometry, kinematics (U, V, and W ) and Galactic orbital parameters were computed...

From Thin to Thick: the Impact of X-ray Irradiation on Accretion Disks in Agn

We argue that the X-ray and UV flux illuminating the parsec-scale accretion disk around luminous active galactic nuclei (AGN) is super-Eddington with respect to the local far-infrared dust opacity. The far infrared opacity may be larger than in the interstellar medium of the Milky Way due to a combination of supersolar metallicity and the growth of dust grains in the dense accretion disk. Becau...
